In 2015, our clients were begging us to offer affordable vaccines.

So we applied the same techniques from our spay neuter service to gradually develop a service where people could get the vaccines they needed (not every vaccine on the market) at an affordable price in an efficient manner. We have since worked with several nonprofits, teaching them the techniques and helping them provide low cost vaccine clinics in the community as fund raising events for their organizations. Now that’s a win, win!

  • Why are pet vaccines so confusing?

It’s because they change all the time. Every year more research is completed, better vaccines are created, and new diseases emerge.

  • So how do I know what vaccines to get, how often, and who is giving me the right recommendations?

Exactly, we feel the frustration. It is equally as frustrating trying to keep up with all the changes and then pass them on to clients.

ANSWER: Most websites will just tell you to trust your vet. At SpayXperts, we follow the vaccine guidelines published by experts in veterinary immunology, epidemiology, and internal medicine. They were last updated in 2017 for DOGS and 2013 for CATS.

If reading research papers is not your thing, rest assured, we read them.

In summary, puppies and kittens need vaccines and treatment for parasites at 2, 3, & 4, months of age, then every year for some vaccines or every 3 years for others. Stray or found pets that are over one year of age can be vaccinated like adults.

FUN FACT: Veterinarians use developmental markers like the presence of puppy or kitten teeth, wear and tear on teeth, aging of skin, and development of genitalia to determine age. These markers are very accurate under 1 year of age but less accurate the older pets get because they all age differently. Now you can impress your friends!
