Jake grew up in the small town of Holdenville, Oklahoma where he often accompanied his father, Dr. Ron Boyer, on veterinary service calls. After 12 years, Jake and his family moved to south Oklahoma City where he worked in the family business, Boyer Veterinary Clinic, and attended Westmoore High School.
After high school, Jake played football at Montana State University, but after 3 1/2 years of service, he returned home with a Biology degree to pursue a passion he never outgrew. In May of 2005, Dr. Jake Boyer graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Jake recalls recognizing his passion for surgery the first day of junior surgery lab, “Surgery can bring our pets dramatic healing in such a short amount of time.” His veterinary passions also include puppy and kitten wellness visits and helping solve the unique challenges of shelter pets. Dr. Jake has advanced training in spay neuter surgery at both local and national conferences. He has volunteered at the OKC shelter and other nonprofit spay neuter clinics collectively performing over 50,000 spay neuter surgeries for Oklahoma & Texas pet owners.
Dr. Jake has been married to wife Amanda for 24 years, and together they have a family of seven including twin boys Luke & Sam 7 years old, forever womb-mates; 10 year old Jacob who can make anyone smile; 12 year old Ethan, Dad’s faithful helper; and 17 year old Emma, smarter than smart & tall as Mama too.
Dr. Jake also enjoys home improvement projects, vegetable gardening, sporting events, farm animals, family, friends, children, and Lifechurch
Amanda (Mandy) grew up in rural Towanda in the heartland of Illinois. As a child she enjoyed playing hide-and-seek in the corn fields, kick the can on late summer nights, and vacationing at Lake of the Ozarks. She went to junior high and high school at nearby Normal, IL where she played volleyball and ran track.
After high school, Mandy was captivated by the Rocky Mountains of Bozeman, Montana and accepted a scholarship to play volleyball at Montana State University. But after meeting husband Jake, she moved to Oklahoma where she pursued her lifelong passion of nursing. Mandy achieved her associate’s degree in nursing in 2003 from Oklahoma City Community College and began working as a critical care nurse for the Norman Regional Hospital System. Mandy has gained valuable experience caring for human patients and feels it is her calling to serve people.
Mandy’s experience as a nurse has given her just what she needed to be married to a veterinarian. Her skills in critical care and as a charge nurse comforting patients have given her a unique angle in caring for canine patients and their owners. She is especially sweet on those little black and tan weenie dogs.
Mandy has been married to Dr. Jake Boyer for 24 years and has Emma, Ethan, Jacob, Luke and Sam to keep her busy when she is not at the clinic. Mandy’s parents have since moved to Oklahoma to be near their grandkids, and she feels blessed to have them so close.
Outside of her career, Mandy’s passions are mothering, cooking, scrapbooking, reading, biking, photography, and a good night’s sleep.
